We have been working with our partners the University of Greenwich to explore ways we could help their students beyond our existing help with their, Dragon’s Den style, Enterprise Challenge. It was felt that we could potentially make a real difference by career mentoring their students looking to make the transition into the world of work/ marketing.
About Greenwich Career Mentoring
Greenwich are based in a fabulous Unesco world heritage site on the south side of the river opposite Canary Wharf. They have a long-established Career Mentoring Programme. They work with various partners like us (mostly in Canary Wharf) to successfully identify and pair around 400 mentor/ mentee partnerships each year – so they are a very experienced at this. And what makes it a great fit for us is that they have a thriving marketing programme within their Business Faculty.
The Career Mentoring Scheme has been designed to provide students with advice and guidance about industry sectors and job-hunting skills through a close and guided relationship with an industry expert.
- Mentoring usually last about five months from February – June
- The recommended time commitment is usually a few hours each month
- Given the current environment, we encourage meetings to be held virtually, using tried and tested channels like MS Teams or Zoom
If you (or someone you know) are interested in mentoring a student, please contact the Chair of the Mentoring Programme, Peter Rosenvinge (firstname.lastname@example.org). If you have not mentored before, but feel you might like to, with a little help, Greenwich are offering to host a “guide to mentoring" styled event (date tbc). This will be in the form of a simple 30 minute virtual gathering, covering topics ranging from what mentoring actually is, what are the qualities of a great mentor and how to become one.
