The Worshipful Company of Gardeners designs and creates a garden each year in Guildhall Yard, and it is there for the month before the Lord Mayor’s Big Curry Lunch; this year the Lunch is on Thursday 2nd April.
Every year the garden is themed around an aspect of military life or veteran care. This year the gardeners created a Living Wall depicting ’Snakes and Ladders’. This represents the up and downs some members of HM Armed Forces experience as they return to civilian life and seek employment.
Why this is so pertinent this year, last year and next year is that £120,000 of the proceeds of the LMBCL in each of the three years is going to fund up to 18 veterans on the 6-month Pain Management Programme (PMP) at the King Edward VII Hospital’s new Centre for Veterans’ Health. The programme enables veterans to cope with pain, real or imagined, and thus helps to make them ready to seek and hold down a job. It is truly life-transforming for the veteran and for his/her family.
The 2020 garden was designed by ‘80’s pop icon and Chelsea Flower Show award winner Kim Wilde.
The Master, Lesley Wilson and Marketors Adrian Bastow and Vladislav Dobrokhotov joined The Lord Mayor, Livery Masters, Chief Commoner Tom Hoffman and ABF charity supporters for the garden launch.
