Last night at Catford the St Dunstan’s – 151 Regiment – Marketors inaugural Drill Competition took place in glorious weather attended by the Master Andrew Cross, Middle Warden and Aim Champion John Farrell, Helen Owen (Vice Chairman St Dunstan’s), Susan Rawlinson and her husband, Anthony and Hugh West Chairman AFCC from the Marketors.
The competition was judged by 151 Regiment RLC’s Regimental Sergeant Major Vince Chappell and Staff Sergeant Jermaine Shaw, and the competition was very close with a team representing the Army Cadets just beating the team representing the Navy Cadets.
A new trophy was presented to the winning team by the Master and it was very pleasing to welcome Chief Petty Officer Gary Rycroft who came all the way from Portsmouth (and back) to represent HMS St Albans, bringing together all our affiliates.
This was what is hoped to be an annual events and Regimental Sergeant Major Vince Chappell commented “considering the short time they had to practice they were all outstanding.”
Each team of 12, plus their drill leaders, consisted of mixed teams which included at least four 14 year olds. Medals will be presented at the Combined Cadets Force’s Contingent Annual Dinner in June.
