For this conference "21st Century Marketing" Master Richard Christou, the Worshipful Company of Marketors, Cambridge Judge Business School and Fujitsu put together a team of leading academics, technologists and marketing practitioners who examined the possibilities generated by the new developments in information and communications technology (ICT) and suggested how marketers can make best use of them. This was a unique opportunity to hear about the future of marketing from some of the people who are already helping to shape it.

The new developments in ICT are having a profound effect on societies and cultures across the globe, and the rate of change will continue to accelerate. One thing is certain; turning back is now not possible. We have built and are building our global society on ICT, and will continue to do so.

There is no doubt the right use of ICT can deliver immeasurable benefits. However, technologists can only deliver us the tools. We must decide how to use them. Marketers, in particular, must come to grips with and understand the new technology, or they will become increasingly unable to communicate with their customers, and increasingly irrelevant in the marketplace. Thus, in his year as Master of the Worshipful Company of Marketors, Richard wanted to examine the way in which these developments will affect the profession of marketing.
