It has just been announced that our Past Master Marketor, Chair of The Financial Services Group of Livery Companies (FSG) and Elected Member of The Livery Committee Andrew Marsden, is now a candidate for Non-Aldermanic Sheriff in 2022-23. The Chair of the Campaign is Sir Michael Bear, Lord Mayor in 2010/2011.
Andrew, now an international strategy consultant and serial Non-Executive Director, will bring 30 years’ board level strategy and business connections to the Civic Team. He spent much of his early business career in marketing and has held senior positions in Unilever, Danone and Britvic and is known for his effective communications and persuasive negotiating skills both in the UK and internationally.
He is a committed champion of professional standards and trade associations and has been appointed to roles such as President of the Marketing Society, Chairman of the Institute of Promotional Marketing and Chairman of the Incorporated Society of British Advertisers. He also chaired the Advertising Standards Authority Code Review which governs all marketing communication in the UK.
Andrew has spent all his life supporting and contributing to many charities. Amongst others, he has been a Trustee of national charities like Marie Curie and ‘Change, Grow, Live’, the major drug rehabilitation charity, establishing a track record of increasing awareness and raising funds. He is currently a member of the Lord Mayor’s Appeal Board. His energy and enthusiasm for helping charitable causes will no doubt be a real catalyst to the City’s charitable initiatives.
Andrew has contributed significantly to the life of the City during his 25 years as a Liveryman and is a very popular figure within the Square Mile. As well as being a Past Master of our Company, he is Chair of the 15 strong FSG and an Elected Member of the Livery Committee. He is also a Past Warden and Court Assistant of the World Traders, a Liveryman of the Stationers, and a Court Assistant of the Glaziers and a Past President of the Aldgate Ward Club. With such extensive and high profile civic and livery positions, Andrew will actively promote the Livery as the relevant, powerful and force for good that it is.
Sir Michael Bear comments: “In essence, Sheriffs need to have an outstanding CV. They are required to be good communicators, good convenors and confident public speakers; have credible networks and successful business experience, and above all excellent ambassadorial qualities. A successful Sheriff will also have strong commitment to the Livery, the respect of the Corporation Officers and Members and support from their family home team. Andrew has all of the above in spades.”
Andrew’s wide-ranging marketing background, gravitas and interpersonal skills are widely considered an ideal complement to the insurance and corporate finance backgrounds of the likely 2022-23 Lord Mayor and Aldermanic Sheriff.
