The Central Criminal Court – popularly known as the ‘Old Bailey’ was the setting for an absolutely fascinating evening tour starting in Court No. 1. And a chill went down all our spines when we were led along Dead Man’s Walk – the condemned’s last sight of daylight.
Now a Crown Court Centre it is run by the City of London Corporation and still tries most of the UK’s most dastardly crimes in its 18 courtrooms.
The tour was followed by dinner in the Judges’ Dining room hosted by Past Master and Aldermanic Sheriff Sir Paul Judge.
After which we all ‘escaped’ into the balmy night air…
