We need your support in order to enter teams in a variety of events to which we are invited – ranging from the Lord Mayor’s Charity Golf Day, the Inter-Livery Cup… and a number of other Livery Companies’ Golf Days.
You do not need to guarantee to play in advance of any particular invitation – but we must have a pool of players so that we can identify those who live “the nearest side of the M25” for any particular event and thus try to minimise any individual’s driving times. All of these events are about Fellowship and you get to meet Members of other Liveries – some are more “serious” than others!
There are two events that stand out above all others – for obvious reasons. They are:
1. The Prince Arthur Cup – the Annual Inter-Livery Golf Tournament at Walton Heath which is held on the 3rd Thursday in May every year. This year = Thursday 18 May. We MUST have a team of four (actually 2 pairs) otherwise we will lose our place for several years to come. Officially recognised Handicaps are a rule for this Competition – maximum being 24 – and it is for Livery Members only, no guests. Whilst it might appear at first sight to be expensive, 2 rounds of golf, the usual bacon baps, etc. on arrival, an enormous, excellent lunch between rounds and a “tea” afterwards – on the two Championship Courses at Walton Heath – for just £121, is a very significant discount from their normal prices! The format is foursomes, bogey – so we must enter two pairs.
2. Our own “Marketors’ Livery Golf Day” at Verulam (St Albans) on Monday 3rd July. Individuals, teams, with or without guests – we need more WCM involvement.
In addition to these, there are a number of other Livery Company Golf Days to which we are invited (again, with or without guests) and these are unfailingly good fun, with good prizes!
We cannot – simply cannot – allow other Livery Companies continue to sneer that the Marketors cannot raise teams!
Please send your details both to Diana Tombs and to Michael Harrison for more details about each event.
