The Mansion House Banquet
In the presence of the Representative Lord Mayor Ald Sir David Wootton and the Sheriffs
Once again we are privileged to hold our Banquet in the wonderful surroundings of the beautiful Egyptian Hall at Mansion House.
This year, the Rt Hon the Lord Mayor, Alderman Peter Estlin, is not able to be with us. The last occasion the incumbent Lord Mayor was unable to join us was in 2012. It is therefore fitting that the then Lord Mayor, Sir David Wootton, will be the Representative Lord Mayor at our Great Event this year. (Note: Lord Mayor Locum Tenens is a capacity which applies if the Lord Mayor is outside the City).
Sir David was the 684th Lord Mayor and an accomplished lawyer in the City. His year of mayoralty coincided with the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic Games in London. He was knighted in 2013 for services to legal business, charity and the City of London. Sir David will be reflecting on my theme for my year “Optimism Offers Opportunities” and how it relates to the current Lord Mayor’s theme ‘Shaping tomorrow’s City today’.
We are also very fortunate that we will be accompanied by both Sheriffs, Alderman Vincent Keaveny and Liz Green, and their consorts. We will be welcomed by a Carpet Guard from the Combined Cadet Force at St Dunstan’s College and after a sparkling wine Reception will be summoned to dinner in the spectacular Egyptian Hall by a stirring fanfare. During an evening of fine wines and food we shall enjoy the traditional Loving Cup and a musical programme including the much-loved Post Horn Gallop!
The Mansion House Banquet is one of the Marketors’ highlights of the year. Carol and I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible, hoping you might invite friends and colleagues to share this splendid evening with you.
