(Econ) as the next Lord Mayor of London.  Much pomp and Livery regalia abound, this ensures it is an event that is - The City of London unique. If, as  a Liveryman, you are unable to make this annual event... do make it at leat once in your Livery lifetime, you will learn a lot of how the city works and in particular, how the Lord Mayor and his Sheriffs add to the square mile's international commercial development.

This year we were privileged to have the opportunity to entertain the Rt Hon, The Lord Mayor, Alderman David Lewis and both Sheriffs, to dinner at the Mansion House. The Lord Mayor was our principal guest at this most impressive event in the Marketors calendar where we dine in the splendid surroundings of the Egyptian Room.

Swan Upping and lunch with the Basketmakers

Swan Upping seen as it happens. We left Henley and went down river to join the Swan Uppers at Hambledon Lock and then we followed them up to Marsh Lock. All this aboard the magnificent New Orleans paddle steamer. Whilst aboard we were refreshed and went on to a magnificent four course lunch including wine.  This was held jointly with the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers who added their warm enthusiasm to this traditional event.   CLICK SUBJECT HEADING for more event info.

This year the venue we chose for the Marketors annual family picnic was Winston Churchill’s former home, Chartwell, nestling in the magnificent Kentish Weald. Apart from being a ‘must visit’, the Master is a self-confessed Churchillian.  The nearby village of Westerham has important historic and commercial links.

Belonging to the Marketors frequently affords a chance to participate in events that would otherwise pass by unknown. One such was the Spring Gala Dinner of the Ordre des Coteaux de Champagne which took place at the Jumeira Carlton Hotel London in May.  The Ordre “extols the wines of Champagne in general and in their diversity”. Master’s Weekend in Yorkshire

On Friday 2 May, 38 intrepid Marketors and their partners ventured north of Watford Gap to meet at Swinton Park, a country house hotel located within a 20,000 acre estate in the Yorkshire Dales, just north of Ripon. An opportunity for all members and guests, irrespective of religious affiliations, to join in this wonderful service followed by the tradition of protecting the boundaries of ‘our Church’, St Bride’s.  The evening was rounded off with a dinner on board a Thames river boat.

Charity Golf Day – RAC

The 'Masters Question and Answer' event of April 16th, held at the picturesque TradeWinds restaurant overlooking St. Katherine's Dock was well attended with 40 plus members. Alan Arnold chaired the event and kept the effervescent members questions pointed in the correct direction of the Court and Company Fellows.
 
Our Master, John Fisher opened the Q&A with a brief history of Livery Companies and the values, our company in particular, brings to the City of London. The success of this more relaxed and open format for the Masters Q&A has been adopted by the Fellowship Committee and will be bought into our yearly calendar of events on a more regular basis.

An intrepid band of Marketors visited Jagz club, for a jazz lunch. The musicians, Enrico Tomaso, Len Skeat, John Pearce and Bobby Worth all e ntertained us. Spring Luncheon

In a Ceremonial Court immediately preceding the lunch, the Master had installed Jim Surguy as Junior Warden and had admitted two Liverymen and twenty-five Freeman, taking Company membership to 405.
